Is Telegram safe?

Telegram is open, anyone can check their source code, protocol and API, see how everything works and make an informed decision. Telegram use their own encryption based on 256-bit symmetric AES encryption, 2048-bit RSA encryption, and Diffie–Hellman secure key exchange. Anyone who claims that Telegram messages can be deciphered is welcome to prove that claim in their competition and win $300,000.
